I've just signed on a new client recently. They found my business using Google search for Denver Web Design and we've had an easy road to getting to a contract.
Now my nemesis...Some Guy...has all sorts of ideas for them. He thinks it would be cool to have the products list in Flash - text which fades to a picture of the product and then changes to new text and a new picture and so on and so on.
Who are these guys and how do they get someone to listen to them when they make suggestions as lame as this! I can read the scenario now...a graphic designer that has learned how to do Flash. They don't know one thing about Denver Web Design but since they know graphic design; they pretend to be the new web experts.
It's aggravating for me but if you heard the complaints of clients over the years, who thought they were hiring someone who knew this confusing Internet world, you would be amazed. The kid next door, someone's brother, their neighbor, an IT guy out of work...the list goes on.
True web development experience is beyond the knowledge of these self made designers/developers but the consuming public still has a lot to learn about the differences. So this is a post to just say; be wary. Ask for credentials, experience, satisfied customers. Actually, first contact real companies, not just 'some guy' - no different than your CPA or attorney...you wouldn't trust those facets of your business to a kid or someone out of work, would you?
